1. Exam Structure (VERY IMPORTANT)
  • Section A
    • You must answer Question 1 only
    • This is compulsory
    • Worth 25 marks
  • Section B
    • You must answer TWO questions out of THREE
    • Each question = 25 marks
    • Total = 50 marks
  • Total exam = 75 marks (1 hour 45 minutes)


2. Time Management
  • You have 105 minutes total
  • Spend:
    • 35 minutes per question
  • Suggested timing:
    • Section A: 35 minutes
    • Section B Q1: 35 minutes
    • Section B Q2: 35 minutes
Do not spend too long on early short questions.


3. How to Answer 1–5 mark questions (command words: describe, state, identify, give)
  • The number of marks = number of points
  • Each point:
    • Must be separate
    • Should be 2 lines (developed)
  • Always:
    • Use bullet points or numbers
    • Avoid writing in one long paragraph


The 3–4 mark “Describe” questions
  • Use data from the figure
  • Use:
    • Numbers
    • Direction
    • Place names
  • Avoid vague answers like “some” or “a lot”


5 mark “Explain” questions
  • Aim for 2–3 explained points
  • Use:
    • Because / this leads to / therefore

7 mark extended answers (VERY IMPORTANT)
Use:
PEEL PEEL PEEL
  • Point
  • Explain
  • Example (place-specific if possible)
  • Link back to question
Repeat:
  • 3 full PEEL paragraphs

Changing Populations Revise:
  • Birth rate, death rate, migration
  • Reasons for high population growth
  • Population policies to control population growth. 
  • Migration causes (push/pull)
  • Detailed Specific Examples - international Migration (Central America to USA)

Tectonic Hazards Revise:
  • Types of volcanoes
  • Volcano structure
  • Benefits of volcanoes
  • Plate boundaries (constructive/destructive)
  • Detailed Specific Example -  Earthquake (Morocco)
  • Management strategies for volcanoes
  • Detailed Specific Example - Volcanic eruption (Iceland)

Changing Towns & Cities
  • Reasons why people move from rural to urban areas (urbanization)
  • How urban places can be unequal for people
  • Detailed Specific Example - Challenges & Opportunities because of urban growth (NYC)


Using Figures (CRUCIAL)

Many questions say:
“Use Figure X” - this is often a graph, chart or a photo. 

You MUST:
  • Quote data
  • Use place names
  • Refer to patterns

Without this, you lose marks.

Case Studies 

Prepare at least:
  • Volcano 
  • Earthquake 
  • Migration 
For each:
  • Location
  • Key facts (dates, numbers)
  • Specific impacts and causes
