7.3.1 An evaluation of the strategies and techniques
Urban growth is a key feature of modern cities, driven by migration, economic opportunities and natural increase. However, rapid expansion can create challenges such as congestion, housing shortages and environmental degradation. As a result, a range of strategies and techniques are used to manage how cities develop. These include planning policies, transport systems and environmental improvements. Evaluating these approaches is important to determine how effective and sustainable they are in balancing economic development, social wellbeing and environmental protection.

Task 1. What is Urban Growth Management?
So, as you have seen in the video above, cities in different parts of the world have grown in different ways and now face different challenges when trying to plan future susainable growth management plans.
Urban growth management = planning and controlling how cities expand to ensure efficient, sustainable development. This should focus on balancing:
- Economic growth
- Social wellbeing
- Environmental protection
Discuss the following questions as a class.

2. What happens if urban growth is uncontrolled?
